What Is Hyperlipidemia or High Blood Cholesterol?
Hyper means high, lipid means cholesterol then hyperlipidemia defined as in a condition where the cholesterol level in the blood is high or high lipids in our blood. Cholesterol is waxy type of protein fat which is made by liver. There are two types of fat or cholesterol such as good cholesterol HDL (High density lipoprotein) and bad cholesterol LDL (Low density lipoprotein). All cholesterol are not bad for our health. HDL is good cholesterol. Hyperlipidemia also known as hypercholesterolemia or dyslipidemia. It also refers as high fat and proteins in the blood.
High blood cholesterol patient typically has no symptoms but it can be detected by simple blood test called lipid profile test.
Risk Factors of Hyperlipidemia
It can increase risk of coronary artery disease, stroke or other heart problems.
Normal total blood cholesterol level of a human body should be
Less than 200 mg/dL range.
LDL less than mg/dL range.
HDL greater than 40 mg/dLfor man and 50 mg/dL for woman. It may vary from area sometimes.
Triglycerides should be less than 140 mg/dL.
