What Is Thyroid Hormone?

First of all, we have to know what is thyroid hormone? Thyroid gland is found in front of the neck of our body, below the larynx and voice box.

Thyroid gland of our body produces thyroid hormone which control metabolism our body or the process the body uses energy.  If thyroxine level are low then many of the body function slow down or not able to work properly.  Hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism affected most of the woman  than the man.

What Is Hyperthyroidism?

Hyperthyroidism defined as excessive secretion of the thyroid hormones from thyroid gland. In this condition, thyroid gland produces more thyroid hormone than usual. It is an endocrine problem. Hyperthyroidism is also known as reactive thyroid problem. Production of the thyroid hormones control by the TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone), which is made by the pituitary gland.

What Is Hypothyroidism?

Hypothyroidism defined as less secretion of the thyroid hormones from thyroid gland. In this condition, thyroid gland produces less thyroid hormone than usual. It is an endocrine problem. Hyperthyroidism also known as underactive thyroid problem. It is the most common condition of thyroid problem. It causes weakness, tiredness, constipation, depression, weight gain, fatigue, muscle or joint pain. It is a very common health problem in the world. Lot of people suffer from this disorder or disease.

More than 4.5% people were suffered from this illness in USA.

Normal TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) level of a human body should be

Normal TSH Levels: 4-5 mU/L.

Normal T3 Levels: 80-120 ng/dL

Normal T4 Levels: 4.6-12 ug/dL

Clinical Name of Hyperthyroidism and Hypothyroidism 
High thyroid, hyperthyreosis, underactive thyroid, low thyroid, hypothyreosis.

Screening or Tests for Hyperthyroidism and Hypothyroidism 
Blood test for TSH, T3 (triiodothyronine), T4 (thyroxine)/Thyroid function test.

Most Common Types of Hypothyroidism

Primary Hypothyroidism:  Primary hypothyroidism is the most common form of hypothyroidism patient. Primary hypothyroidism due to disease of the thyroid, in this condition TSH levels are high. It might be linked to genetic issues or family history. Most common causes of the primary hypothyroidism are Hashimoto thyroiditis, autoimmune disease, goiter.

Secondary Hypothyroidism:  Secondary hypothyroidism is less common form of hypothyroidism patient. Secondary hypothyroidism is due to pituitary gland or hypothalmic disease, in this condition THS levels are low.

Central Hypothyroidism Central hypothyroidism is due to disease of pituitary and  hypothalamus glands, in this condition THS levels are slightly high or normal.


Congenital Hypothyroidism: Congenital hypothyroidism is the less common form of hypothyroidism patient, in this condition thyroid hormone deficiency present at birth almost 1 out of 4000 babies were suffered with congenital hypothyroidism, it might be radiates with their family history.
